The incident happened on Thursday, Nov. 21 at around 5 p.m., when a young girl was found with a cut to her hand in Yonkers near the intersection of Warburton Avenue and John F. Kennedy Memorial Drive, down the street from Riverside High School, according to Yonkers Police Sergeant Robert Spink.

A preliminary investigation soon determined that two girls fought on Warburton Avenue away from school grounds. During the dispute, one of the girls took out a knife and cut the victim's hand, Spink said.

The victim then ran to the high school to look for shelter, but the building was closed.

According to Spink, the victim was later taken to a nearby hospital where she is now being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police later found and detained a suspect, whose identity was not released.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
